You can obtain county public records that correspond with a specific county around the United States. However some states are beginning to make obtaining public records that correspond to things going on in their county extremely hard for individuals. Such states as New Jersey are now being sought out as not allowing the public to get the records that inquire about seeing. New Jersey is trying to make the public jump through multiple hoops in order to obtain public records. When in fact, the public records are the people's records and should not be for the county to decide.
New Jersey was trying not to release public county information to a citizen who had asked for the information. The county stated that simply writing for the information that they wished to obtain was not enough. The person was told that they had to file a form in order to obtain the information. Asking the person to fill out a form started an extreme dispute. The Open Public Records act states that all you have to do is request the documents in writing. Therefore the county was put under investigation for violating the laws set forth.
The ruling concerning the county public records did come back showing that the county was in the wrong. There are over 566 different county records that are supposed to be available for public view as long as they are requested in the correct manner. If one had to fill out a form for each of the records they were requesting it could take over a year to get information back pertaining to each record. Many people fear that this attempt to get public records is not going to be the first, and will eventually span out to different states all over the United States.
County public records are supposed to be public. One should not have to jump through hoops in order to obtain records that are supposed to be rightfully available for the public to view at any time that they seem fit. This refusal for county records has made more then the news, it has made history. New Jersey is probably not the first state that has refused to give out county public records. It is probably the first state that anyone went back and did something about.
More people need to come forward whenever there is a problem obtaining county public records. Public records are there for the public. The Government states that everyone has the right to view these records. This means you don't have to be of a certain economic status to gain access to these documents, all you need to do is simply request them and you should be able to see them with no problems. A state can not override laws that the Government has set aside for its people.
