Every state in the United States keeps its own public arrest records. These arrest records are used as a means to target out criminals in order to keep our people safe. The arrest records do not show anything as a means to embarrass people, all that is basically seen is your name and the reason for your arrest. In most cases you can see arrest records in Newspapers, but they are more likely to be called police blotter. Police blotter keeps citizens up to date about things that are going on around their cities.
Public arrest records are the best way to find out if someone you know has been involved in any criminal activities in the past. No one is saying that people can not change their ways, but it's good to know what someone has done in the past as means to protect yourself when you are around that person in the future. Obviously you would not want your children to be around someone who has an arrest record that states that they were arrested for child pornography. Public arrest records allow everyone the chance to stay on their guard when they come in contact with other people.
We don't live in a time and an age where everything is perfect. Therefore you can't always be too certain about people that you come in contact with. You can obtain public arrest records in a plethora of different ways. Many people prefer to use the internet because records can be obtained in a shorter period of time with the internet in comparison to the mail. There are wide arrays of websites that will supply public arrest records for free, or for a small one time processing fee. If you find yourself on a fee based website its better to pay the fee and have your questions answered about the particular person that you are inquiring about.
When an employer offers you a position at a job, most of the time they request access to your public arrest records. They ask this as a means to ensure that their work establishment is safe from things such as theft or any other criminal activities. You will be asked more then one time in your life for your public arrest records to be pulled, so don't feel like you're a bad person because someone asks you this information.
The Government will also use information found on a public arrest record as a means to monitor criminal activity around the United States. Believe it or not these arrest records are what tells the Government what laws are being followed and what laws are not. In some instances the Government may modify a law if a lot of people are found being accused of the same offense. Or the Government may choose to add more information to a particular law as a means to clarify the meaning to the public.
